To Buy or Not to Buy?

As an Esthetician, I naturally receive and give skincare products as gifts. This year was no different as I spent hours thinking of what to get my loved ones. My gift to you this year is to review these gifts and tell you what I love about them. Or what I don't love about them. Hey, it may help you next time when trying to figure out what to get as a gift.

  • Rose Quartz Facial Roller: This gift I got for my mother, who is very much into skincare. She loves anything that makes her feel good, whether a new robe, facial product, or yoga mat. We have had many discussions about whether rose quartz or jade facial roller is better. And it is just based on your needs and opinion. Rose quartz has inherent minerals- silicium, magnesium, iron, sodium, and oxygen- that skin can topically borrow and benefit from when rolling. Rose quartz will stay cool whereas jade is adaptive and tends to warm with skin contact. Rose quartz is also better known for its wrinkle-reducing benefits. Jade is the stone of luck and my middle name, so I wanted to gift this to her so badly. However, my mother is on the other side of 60 so wrinkles and decreasing inflammation are often a concern. Rose Quartz it is.

  • Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant: Let me start by saying, if you have never tried a Dermalogica product, you are missing out. I became spoiled by working with Dermalogica products for 13 years. Getting to try all the newly launched products on customers and me was such a treat. This was a gift for my husband, as it is also one of his favorite products. Daily Microfoliant is a powder base exfoliant for even the most sensitive skin types. You work it into your hand until it creates a lather and can be mixed with your daily facial cleanser. It is special because, unlike other exfoliants, this can be used every day and not irritate the skin. This product also can be used in conjunction with retinol products, which is unique to facial exfoliants.

  • Facial Humidifier: Humidifiers tend to be best for those who struggle with dry skin top to bottom and who aren’t worried about acne, aging, or other face skin-specific issues. But it is still a great gift for those of you that live in a climate where winter can wreak havoc on your skin, stripping it of moisture. Facial humidifiers can also be beneficial for giving you that “glowy” look that comes from your skin cells retaining water that then reflects light. They are great for preventing transepidermal water loss, which is when your skin's water supply depletes through the course of a day.

These are just a few products I have reviewed over time but, they are also gifts anyone can benefit from regardless of skin type or age. If you are still looking for gift ideas, consider one of these for the skincare lover in your life. With that said, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and continues to embrace this time as we manage to navigate through the pandemic with uncertainty almost two years later.
