Dreaded Birthdays...

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Our birthdays are one month apart and both turned 36 this year. A few things about your thirties, is you feel good about who you are. You are confident in what you want and care less about what other's think about you. But as you continue to approach forty, you notice little things that you never did before. You start to see tiny little lines around your eyes when you smile in photos. The skin on your arms and stomach, isn't as tight as it used to be. Shimmery shadows are not so flattering anymore. This means that you have begun to age. Thirties are by no means old, it just means you are aware of how it can change you. Aging is one thing you should embrace even when you want to fight it.

When it comes to beauty and skin care, there are several ways you can embrace the aging without costing you tons of money. Exfoliation. Exfoliation is ridding the surface of dead skin cells. These dead cells can make the skin look dull, lifeless and gray. The good news is, our skin naturally sheds these cells. The bad news is, as we get older this process slows down. By the time we reach forty, it can take well over 30 days for our skin to shed, sometimes even up to 60+ days. We need to help it along by using products that will either physically or chemically exfoliate the skin. By exfoliating on a regular basis we continue to help the skin shed these dead cells and in turn the skin will look radiant and glowing.

Be careful of what you exfoliate with though. Using granules that are too harsh can cause microtears in the skin, which will make sensitivies even worse. By using chemical exfoliants that are too harsh or too often can cause chemical burning on the skin. At home your chemical exfoliants should be 10% acid or less, and combined with a moisturizer until your skin adjusts to the new product. Your granular scrubs should be of particles that have been smoothed out. Walnuts can often be a culprit of being too harsh when ground up, try adding a little sugar to your face wash instead. And it is always a good idea to get treatment recommendation from your Esthetician. Bottom line is, exfoliate your skin people! And not just your face, your body is just as important. It will help you look younger, longer!!
